The County Fair and the 50 yard dash

The Orange Country fair opened the other day. I have only been to the OC once and it was a fun experience. Nothing compared to the LA County Fair. Ever since we have been married (1979) I and Tricia have been to the LA County fair each year, except one year when we were on a cruise ship in the middle of the Caribbean riding out a Hurricane. By the way, Carroll and Phebe Maddole are in St Thomas right now. Hope they are not by Tropical storms, Bertha, Elda, and Fausto.

The LA County Fair starts on Sept 5 and we will go for one day again this year. It’s that time of the year all across our country. Fairs, animals, horse races, Turkey legs, spa’s for sale, cotton candy, judges for the best in show, price money, auctions, crowds, deep fried Snickers and much more. At the Allentown Pennsylvania fair they are having a 50 Dad run the 50 yard dash. The catch is that you have to run in Woman’s High heels and you can’t duct-tape your heels to your legs. What is the world coming too!

Remember the 50 yard dash in school. Today it’s the 40. Wonder were the 10 yards went? In 7th grade I came in third at my school for the 50. I won the silver metal! WOW! The first place time was 7.1 seconds. Second was 7.3 and third (me) was 7.6. The fastest time recorded for the 50 yard dash in the U.S. Woman’s Indoor Track and Field Championships was in 1957 by Isabella Daniels. She clocked a 5.7. Just think--I was off by 1.9 seconds of a woman’s indoors track championships record. I just was wondering how she kept those high heels on.
