Vacation

On Monday I will start my vacation for this 2010 year. I looked up the meaning and here it is:

1. Freedom from any activity, rest, respite, intermission

2. A period of rest and freedom from work, study, etc.; time of recreation, usually a specific interval in a year.

3. A vacation is a leave of absence from regular occupation, or a specific trip or journey, for the purpose of recreation or tourism. People often take a vacation during specific holiday observances, or for specific festivals or celebrations. Vacation are often spent with friends and family.

You can have a cheap vacation, All inclusive vacation, Last minute vacation, Worry free vacation, Family vacation, Disney vacation, Hawaii vacation. So much to worry about in taking a vacation.

So on Monday I will take a leave of absence to have an intermission for a time of recreation to a place of celebration with a freedom together with my family. On Oct 12-- I will come back to work for a time of rest! Holiday Road here I come!

If you get skunked!

I have come very close to being sprayed by a sunk a few times in my life. They call the odor---"skunk essence". I saw this recipe the other day and it will come in handy now that I am 55 years old. Might not move as fast as I need to now.
Today the young man behind the Del Taco counter asked me "SIR" "WOULD YOU LIKE THE SENIOR DISCOUNT? I gave him a look!!!-----He acted like he was sprayed with essence!!! Then I told him yes I need it now since you think I am old!
If you are ever sprayed in life...
Mix together:
1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 c baking soda
1 tsp liquid laundry soap or dish washing detergent
The first two ingredients from an alkaline peroxide that chemically changes the skunk essence into an odorless chemical.
The soap breaks down the oily skunk essence an makes it more susceptible to the other chemicals.
Chemicals in this formula are harmless and can be used on people, clothing and pets. Use immediately after mixing; do not store (it will expand and can burst a closed container.)
Moral of the story--Don't keep you Essence inside--let it out or it will expand and burst!

In a File

I have a exterior hard drive on my desk at work. Most of the time I have it unplugged and just setting not being used. I back up my work, pictures, files, videos. I also move files from my computer to it when my computers hard drive gets full. I was doing that just the other day. I opened a video file I had made years ago about Kenya. It made my day! Looking back at the places we have been in life is something that makes you want to look forward more and more. The world and Africa is calling! Do you hear it?

5 miles There--3 miles Home

Summers in Riverside 45 years ago were spent on a Schwinn Deluxe Stingray with a banana seat and sissy bar. A bicycle to all others. Fire red!!!

3 times a week we were going to Arlington Park to swim and to hang out with the guys. We would always go a different way each time to make sure we were not a boring group of guys. The morning swim was the best and it was only .25 cent. The diving board was pretty cool not as good as the one at La Granada pool. Most of the older, rich kids went to swim at that pool. It cost a lot of money to get into La Granada--.50 cents. After the swim we would ride to dairy queen for a .15 cent ice cream cone. The trip there was always 5 miles or more with stops at places of mischief. The trip home was always 3 miles because lunch was on the table.

Looking back I think parents were smarter then-- . 40 cent and you could get rid of your kids for most of the day. All summer long!

Thou hast set all the borders of the earth:thous hast made summer and winter. Psalms 74:17

In a Can

They say that the average kid eats 1500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before graduating from High school. WOW!!!
Remember when you would get out the white Wonder bread, the Skippy peanut butter and the jelly grandma made???
Today in 2010 to make a PBJ you would just pop the lid. Get one candwich and its good for one year. What is the world coming too.

Explore. Dream. Discover

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Don't take the Bus!

After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies. The deception wasn’t discovered for 3 days.

I have seen those bars along the road in Kenya. Just out in the middle of nothing. I took this picture of a truck that was at one of these bars! TOO much to drink that day! Watch the driver the next time you get on the bus---cause you might end up like one of their trucks or worse yet in a metal hospital. It just might do some of you some good!

A special Letter!

I opened my mail box late last night after coming back from Siempre Para Los NiƱo’s Christmas party in Mexico. http://www.siemprekids.org/
The wind was blowing, a little snow on the ground and 22 degrees. The first letter was the cable bill and the second and last was a letter addressed to Santa. OOOOOOOOOOOOOO the mail man had placed the letter in my box by mistake. Some kid, from somewhere in the world was wishing for gift, a doll, a dog or a dad or mom to come home and I could not answer their hearts desire. What was I going to do?
I looked at the return address—Riverside—I know where that is and it was from a Leta in Riverside. My Granddaughter! She was asking for things that were already on the sleigh, the reindeers are ready to fly and Santa’s was on his way! She signed the end of the letter- Love Leta. Yes Leta, dreams do come true and letters sent in love mealt the heart!

ooma

Its a weird name but it works great. I got one for my Christmas present a few days ago. Yes it great to get those gifts a week before Christmas. Wish I would had received it 6 months ago! Christmas in June would be great!
Every time I opened my phone bill for my home phone-- I saw those taxes and the taxes on the taxes. Fees for the fees !!! What a great idea for a phone company! So I hooked up the ooma to my computer and now I have free home phone with no taxes and fees. A great idea for me! Just a DSL line ( not taxes or fees with a dry-loop line) and I have service.
Just one bad thing--if the power goes out at home--no ---"PHONE HOME".

A Poly Grip Thanksgiving

We served over 3400 meals on Thanksgiving day! What a great time helping those in need. This morning in the office I received a call from one of the households that received a dinner. She told me that the meal was great and she said “THANK YOU, THANK YOU, and THANK YOU! She told me how the two ladies were great but she had not heard back from them. She told them she needed some poly grip for her teeth and she was thinking they were going to come back with some to help her out. I told her that we were only serving dinners that day and I didn’t think they would be back with the poly grip. I told her I was sorry for the mistake. I guess next year we better get a case of the stuff as back-up!
Good thing our turkey was cooked so good and it melted in her mouth and she didn’t need her teeth!

Snow

First snow of the year today! I will have to shovel 3” off the walkway when I get home. Good thing it’s 3” and not 3ft. Have to get ready for that much snow. The dog was not to happy this morning. He said “YOU WANT ME TO GO OUT THERE IN THAT? As he ran back up the stairs and hid in the bedroom. He also has to get ready for 3ft of snow. I am looking forward to it! Bella is also looking forward to run and get lost in the white snow ( he is white also) that is when he gets his head in the right mood! I guess winter is here and I am in the right mood!

Picture from the past

Its called a trust fall. John placed his trust in Brian,Becki, Brad and three others you cannot see. They did not let him fall to the ground.
John was telling me he saw Brian the other day. Its great to hear about people you have not seen for a couple of years.

We need to trust the Lord in everything! Have a great day
