Snow!



Well it’s that time of the year. SNOW!


We got over 2 feet of the white stuff and it broke my snow shovel. It also broke the back windshield of my car. It’s a Jeep and it made of Plastic or something like it. I taped it up with clear Duct-tape and it look as good as new. Duct tape is a gift from God! I really do look like a red-neck going down the road now! Guess I will have to get a new one! The picture below is of the snow and the house.

I also looked at my barbeque and thought it would be great to barbeque some fish but there is too much snow on it and my snow shovel is broke! I will just have to go and set by the warm fire instead!

Our First Christmas boxes to Mexico

What did you get?


This little boy(in the piture below) came by himself to our Christmas line in Mexico many years ago and I got his picture as he was walking proudly back to his home. The box was only a shoe box filled with goodies but it was almost as big as he was. We made his day! He droped the box right after I took the picture. I ran down the street and together we placed all the goodies back into the box. Hope he still looks back to those day's with warm memories of the people from Central Community. I sure do! This wed 12-17-08 we will have another party with boxes filled with goodies. Come on down with us! It will paint a picture in your heart that will never go away!

Strawberry Spinach Salad

Jean Booth Broccoli salad was a hit at Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks Jean! Now here is her recipe for---
Strawberry Spinach Salad
2-3 bunches spinach washed and torn in pieces
2 baskets strawberries sliced
Dressing
½ cup oil
½ cup sugar
¼ cup cider vinegar
½ tsp minced onion
½ tsp Worcestershire
½ tsp paprika
Place dressing into salad when ready to serve.

Enjoy the recipe and the salad.
Today at Costco I got gas for a Buck seventy one a gallon! Looking forward to just the buck!

I have heard that Jean Booth’s broccoli salad is to die for. My wife is making it for our thanksgiving dinner at our daughter house this year. She just loves it!
I believe that there is a “Broccoli conspiracy” happing all around me. I don’t like broccoli! I feel like I am the Jolly-green giant eating trees when I eat it. Sorry Jean I will not eat my broccoli in my plate this year at dinner time! Hope I don’t get sent to my room!

When I go to Siempre our kids home in Mexico, every time I eat with them they have broccoli in everything. The “truth” is that when I pull up in the morning at Siempre they see my jeep and they run to the kitchen to put a pot of broccoli on the stove. So at lunch time they have one of the kids come and get me for dinner, “Pastor Ken, Pastor Ken---“LUNCH” with a smile that say’s “Broccoli”.
I have to be a good example for all those kids, so I eat the entire broccoli in my bowl. I do it---but deep down in my heart I wish I was back in the good-old USA so I can choose not to eat it.

Jean Booth gave me the recipe for the Broccoli salad today. I will pass it on to my wife. Jean is a great cook and I love the other things she makes. I told her if she would give me all her other recipes I would publish a book for her. Thanks Jean! Here is the recipe for the salad from Jean’s Kitchen Cookbook.

Broccoli Salad
2 heads of broccoli –chopped
1 small red onion- diced
1 red delicious apple- diced
½ cup of raisins
½ cup of pecans
12 slices cooked bacon- crumbled
Dressing (mix-up the night before)
1 cup Best Food Mayo
¼ cup of sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
Next week’s recipe will be her Strawberry Spinach Salad.
Don’t like that either! Never did understand why Popeye ate Spinach!

The Wall

McPherson and Agnes Peter came up to our house on Friday and spent the night. We had a great time together and enjoyed going to town for dinner. If you see them at church, say Hi and get to know them. They have some funning stories about their lives. They are from Jamaica and have been here for 10 years. McPherson is a block layer and he had the day off on Friday AND since I have a block wall that was half done—I ask if he could stop by. He took me up on it!

We worked all day Friday on the wall and today while I am writing this blog he is there putting the finishing touches on it. They will stay the rest of the day at my house while I am at working at the church and going to Transions, our Saturday night service. Check out Transions at http://acceptym.com/transitionsblog/

Dirt, Dirt and more Dirt!

I just knew that my back would be sore and my arms would feel like they were ready to fall off. I had a truck load of dirt delivered to my house for my carport that I needed to fill in. 26 tons of dirt would be delivered and I knew the day was going to be me, the shovel and a great big pile of dirt the needed to me moved.
Years ago when I worked in the tile trade we would have trucks with 26 tons of sand come to the jobs sites all the time. Once the driver just dumped his whole load at the bottom of the hill and it needed to be on the top of the hill. We were out of luck! For day’s we pushed wheel barrow after wheel barrow up that hill. Almost died that week!
I made sure the driver on Friday put it in the right shot. I didn’t want to go up any hills. I got most of the dirt moved --24 tons. 48,000 lbs! I ran out of light to finish the job on Friday so either today or on the morning I will move another 2 tons. Not bad for an old man!
If you have never moved dirt before I have two more truck load’s coming. You could come and move 52 tons of dirt! 104,000 lbs. It will make you buff and lean!
Go move something today!

Dan took me on his new boat yesterday and he had a great time fishing for bass at Lake Perris. I only got one and Dan got none. But we fished the whole lake and had a great time together. Get to know Dan at church and he just might take you fishing.

Chuck

His name is Corn Dog Chuck.

He is wearing a white sweatshirt. He is on the right of the picture looking over the little barbeque and making sure the corn dogs don’t burn for the kids to eat in Mexico.
He had a few cooked and started to hand them to the kids. They just held them in their hands wondering what to do with them. They had never seen a corn dog or never had eaten one.
So Chuck took one off the grill, plastered the side of it with Ketchup and mustard showing the kids of Tijuana how to eat a corn dog. It amazed them, they laugh, and we had a great time together eating perro de maiz.
Chuck spent most of his day plastering the sides of the corn dogs with Ketchup and mustard. They taught him that they loved to lick the mustard and ketchup off the side of the corn dog and he would plaster it again. Eating the corn dog after all the ketchup and mustard was gone.
As I look at the picture I wonder were those kids are today on the streets of Mexico. Most of them would be in their late teens or adults now. The picture is almost 10 years old. I pray we made a difference in the lives.
Chuck made a difference that day!

Walter Crager led a group of hikers from Central Community to areas around southern Ca for years. We had a blast and a work out at the same time. Walter loves to hike.

If you asked him the same question that the Lord ask Moses awhile back “What is in you hand?” he would say “A BIG STICK”. Walter loves to carry a big stick.

If you asked why he carried a stick he would tell you just in case something came out of the woods. Walter loves to poke at things.

Walter also carried a backpack containing medical supplies in case someone fell off a cliff. Walter loves to be the nurse of the day. He is a Register nurse. Walter loves to fix people.

Walter always has a joke to tell you. Walter loves to laugh.

Walter is a great guy!

Walter also carried an extra big stick with him--which he gave to Pastor Eric one year so he could walk on water!

John (our Youth Pastor now at Central Community) and Tod were so wiped out from the day's activities that in the middle of the night one of them got up to go to the bathroom and got back in the wrong bunk bed. It was a funny morning when all the other campers got up before they did with picture being taken by all the other campers.

A good performace Burrito!

On the boxes of the MRE’S
Military Rations are good performance meals. Food gives you energy. The more energy you burn, the more food you need. You are more active during field training, deployment and combat that in garrison. You need to eat more and drink more water or other fluids in these situations.
When you don’t eat enough to meet your body’s energy needs, you lose weight. This can lead to a loss of body fluids and degrades your performance. In the field you NEED three meals per day. Ready-to eat (MRE) contains 1200 to 1300 calories. Average daily calorie requirements in the field are 2800 to 3600 calories for males and 2000 to 2800 for females.
Tips-- If you can’t eat all the food in the ration….
· Eat some of each component to get a balance of nutrients
· Eat the high carbohydrate items first(crackers, beverage, base, fruit, jelly)
· Save unopened dry snacks items to eat when you’re on the move.
I ate the MRE’S for lunch and I just have to say one thing----If we are serving these (MRE) to our troops in Iraq we better bring them home “NOW”. They need are help and prayers!
How were they on a scale of 1-10 (10 being best)
Black bean and rice Burrito-- # 5-- looked more like tamale than a burrito, plan tasting
Mexican rice—#10 – nice favor, best of all the meal
Soda Crackers---- # 4, no salt on crackers had to add my own.
Beverage Base Powder—Lemon Lime # 1—very weak
Salt and pepper---? on # How do you judge?
Gourmet Instant Coffee and creamer--#6—ok for instant—a question on the Gourmet
Apply Jelly--- # 3, tasted like corn syrup, runny
3-Chocolate Chip cookies--# 8 – I think they were Mothers brand cookies. A little dry! One cookie broken.
Spoon— # 5--White plastic fork which will survive all wars
Napkin—wiping all the stuff off my desk and going to taco bell for a better Lunch!

Better than Taco Bell!

We have a food pantry at church for anyone that comes and ask for food. The people of Central Community drop off food weekly to help people in need. This week we got a few boxes of MRE’S. If you have ever severed in the Military, been in Iraq or Afghanistan or now to Central Community food pantry you know that a MRE’S is Meals Ready to Eat. I don’t know what war they are from --World War 2, Korean War, Vietnam, Gulf War or one of the many that going on today.

I will tell you later what has happened to the 3 boxes of MRE’S and the one Black bean Burrito I will eat----today? Looking forward to those Chocolate chip cookies!

Birthdays

Birthdays are different these days!

My son 28Th birthday was on Tuesday. We told him happy b-day but gave him no cake, no ice cream or any presents. With everyone working different times and days than Eric we will come together this Tuesday Oct 21 to sing Happy Birthday, blow out the candles, eat the cake, the ice cream and give gifts on money. One week later than his birthday. Now if that would have happened when I was a kid (28) is still a kid, I would have freaked!


I remember that first day of his life. I was the only one there to see him for the first time. 9:00 PM at night. We were at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana. Tricia had to have a cesarean section and she was still out of it to see him.


I was so lost, did not know what a father needed to do. Could not find the owners manual anywhere! But that first time I saw him, he was my son, I fell in love with him before I knew who is was or would one day be. He has always been a great person, smarter than most of the people around him, even his father. I have always been proud that he is my son.
Tricia saw him about and hour later and I can still see that wonder and that love she had for him that first time she looked at his face. Wow! She held him for over one hour and getting tired she place him in the drawer for the nurse to care for him. That story is for another day and time.

Birthdays are different these days!


The cake will probably be made by a little girl named Leta (she is in the picture above). She made my cake a couple of months ago. Sugar and spice with a little love makes a good cake. The licks makes it taste better than any cake Betty Crocker has ever made!
I turned 53 years old this year and I am still a kid! One day I might grow up and be an adult! But I am having too much fun to do that!

Chicken in every pot!

Everyone needs some chicken soup for the soul --even pandas!
The Wuhan Zoo in central China has been feeding its two panda’s home-cooked chicken soup twice in a month to reduce stress and give them a boost. The pandas called "Hope" and "Greatness" were tired and suffering from all the visitors of the year. What a great name for your next kids or Grandkids --Hope McDaniel--Greatness McDaniel or Hope Cascarrelli –Greatness Cascarrelli.
"They had been getting less sleep, and they had to run around more," he said. "We felt it would be good to give them the soup because they were fatigued and had a bit of a shock."
Hope and Greatness were served 2.2 pounds of soup, in addition to their regular diet of bamboo, milk and buns. It was a hit.
Tonight cook up some home-cooked chicken soup and as you watch the presidential debate sip on it as you listen. Better yet, send some of it to the candidates to sip on before the debate, it will reduce our stress and give us a boost. Everyone needs some chicken soup for the soul --even Americans!

I have had a great time being off in the month of September. Here is a list of things we have done
• Painted my mom’s house
• Painted my sister-in law house
• Put up some fencing for my brother
• Worked around the yard at my house
• Started building a block wall for a carport at my house
• Laid around all day and did “nothing”
• Had my granddaughter come spend a few days with me and we built robots out of blocks
• Spent some time at the lake
• Went to The LA County Fair
• Went to see the play Wicked at the Pantages Theatre
• Went shopping at old town Pasadena and spent the night
• Went four –wheeling
• Went out to dinner a few times
• Went to a few movies
• Rented some movies to watch at home
• Rested
• Had fun
• Now I am looking forward to getting back to work.

I have a birthday at the end of this week. I will turn 53 but I have the heart of a 33 year old. Many years ago, while watching a little TV on Sunday instead of going to church, I watched a church in Atlanta honoring one of its senior pastors who had been retired many years...... He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the Church even bothered to ask the old gentleman to preach at that age.After a warm welcome and introduction of this speaker, as the applause quieted down he rose from his high back chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a sliding gait to the podium. Without a note or written paper of any kind, he placed both hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and slowly he began to speak......"When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in my 50 odd years preaching. I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to just one thing that made the most difference in my life and sustained me through all my trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears and heart break and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me......the only thing that would comfort was this verse... "Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong, We are weak but he is strong..... Yes, Jesus loves me... The Bible tells me so."When he finished, the church was quiet. You actually could hear his foot steps as he shuffled back to his chair. I don't believe I will ever forget it.A pastor once stated, "I always noticed that it was the adults who chose the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during a hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see they knew it the best."Senior version of "Jesus Loves Me".

Black and White

My Uncle Carlos from Oklahoma sent me the following.
I don't remember most of the black and white world as he did. I am not as old as he is.
He has a birthday on August 24 and he will be really old.
Might have to send him a link to a web site for the old folks home!

Guess I do remember all the old shows!. I AM OLD! We ( I and Carlos) could have the same room in the old folks home together!

You could hardly see for all the snow,
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in icepack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.

The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE... and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.

Flunking gym was not an option... even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.

Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.

We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.
Oh yeah... and where was the Benadrylandsterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine) and then we got our butt spanked.

Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49+ bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.
We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either because if we did, we got our butt spanked there and then we got our butt spanked again when we got home.

I recall the kid from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that?

We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes? We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive?

Mbube

Mbube in Zulu for "Lion". The song the Lion Sleeps Tonight was first recorded by Solomon Linda and his group called the Evening Birds in 1939.
It refers to an old legend in Africa about a king, who was known as Chaka The Lion. Legend says, Chaka The Lion didn't die when Europeans took over the country; he simply went to sleep, and he'll wake up some day.
Always liked the song and love it even more since I have seen where the lion sleeps in Africa.

A Wedding

I have a wedding on Saturday for a friends daughter.

Each time I plan out the day and service with the couple getting ready for that big day I think of my wedding and that great day in my life.

A place, a time and some words that have change my life for the better.

The Rings, a tux, a dress, family and friends.

We are getting close to that 29Th year in September. I am are old! Tricia is the same!

To have and to hold--done that!

From that day forward--done that!

For better for worst--done that! Many times!

For richer, for poorer--done that! Most of it poorer.

In sickness and in Health--done that!

To love and to Cherish--doing that!

Till death do us part--not there yet!

Gift Cards

Lets plan a day around those gift cards that each of us have around the house. I and Tricia place all our cards in a Pleasant Holidays folder she got a few years ago going to Hawaii. It’s a daughter-mother thing they have done a couple of times and if I would let her it would be yearly. We place that folder in her car and whenever we are out, we might use them. Only problem is that we forget we have them under the seat.
Here is my day with just Gift cards I have now and nothing else:
1. Start off the morning at McDonalds—get an Egg McMuffin with the first card.
2. I would drive thru Starbucks and get Tricia a Mocha-Latte -ice something. You can tell I am not into Starbucks. I only go there with a free card.
3. I would stop by Best Buy, walk the computer isles drooling and dreaming and then pick up something in the music isle for the road trip.
4. I would stop and full up my gas tank with the $25.00 dollar gift card from Shell. Dreaming some more here. If Gas keeps going up I want them to fill my tank for me like the good old days. Fill it up sir? Check your oil and tires? Put water in your radiator? Clean your windshield? Get you a coca-cola in a bottle for 25 cent?
5. We have some time to kill before lunch so we would stop at Borders and read some books. Why use my gift card when I can read all the books while I am at Borders. It’s a great Library!
6. I would take Tricia out to Lunch at Black Angus. Order a steak, salad, baked potato with just butter, with an Ice Tea. A-1 sauce please!
7. We would go to The Cheesecake Factory and get dessert. She would have plain cheesecake with one of the following Raspberries, blackberries, blueberries. By the way, Linda Zastrow and her family went to Oak Glenn on Friday to pick Blackberries. Wonder if she will bring us some to church? I would just have a brownie, I do not like cheesecake.
8. We then would stop at Ralph grocery store to pick up some snacks for #9. Hot tamales, Look bar, M & M’s. Tricia would get everything else.
9. We would drive to the AMC Theaters at the TYLER Mall (old name for an old man, set in my ways) and see Black Night at a decent time. Not in the middle of the night.
10. After the movie would go to the Pro Bass Shop and pick up a few hooks for the next time Dan takes me out to Diamond Lake. I heard that he might be getting a boat? There sure are a lot of rumors about Dan and Terry going around. You would think that they we going steady or something?
11. We would now stop at dinner at Red Lobster because we were talking about fish in item # 10.
12. After dinner, dessert again at Cold Stone. I would have one scoop of Black Walnut and one of Butter Pecan. Tricia would have something with pieces in it, she likes the crunch.
13. Then we would go down to the Marriott in Tijuana and spend the night because we need a rest from the Gift Cards we all have in the United States.
14. Right before we went to sleep at night we would call our kids with the $20.00 Prepaid phone card and tell everyone “Good Night”. I would also call the church and tell them I would be taking off the next day because we have to play with the kids at Siempre.
What a day that would be!

I love to watch the Olympic! Just wish all the channels would cover it like when the President makes a speech. All channels, all day coverage. They should make that a new law!

The County Fair and the 50 yard dash

The Orange Country fair opened the other day. I have only been to the OC once and it was a fun experience. Nothing compared to the LA County Fair. Ever since we have been married (1979) I and Tricia have been to the LA County fair each year, except one year when we were on a cruise ship in the middle of the Caribbean riding out a Hurricane. By the way, Carroll and Phebe Maddole are in St Thomas right now. Hope they are not by Tropical storms, Bertha, Elda, and Fausto.

The LA County Fair starts on Sept 5 and we will go for one day again this year. It’s that time of the year all across our country. Fairs, animals, horse races, Turkey legs, spa’s for sale, cotton candy, judges for the best in show, price money, auctions, crowds, deep fried Snickers and much more. At the Allentown Pennsylvania fair they are having a 50 Dad run the 50 yard dash. The catch is that you have to run in Woman’s High heels and you can’t duct-tape your heels to your legs. What is the world coming too!

Remember the 50 yard dash in school. Today it’s the 40. Wonder were the 10 yards went? In 7th grade I came in third at my school for the 50. I won the silver metal! WOW! The first place time was 7.1 seconds. Second was 7.3 and third (me) was 7.6. The fastest time recorded for the 50 yard dash in the U.S. Woman’s Indoor Track and Field Championships was in 1957 by Isabella Daniels. She clocked a 5.7. Just think--I was off by 1.9 seconds of a woman’s indoors track championships record. I just was wondering how she kept those high heels on.

Those Born 1930-1979

A friend sent this to me.

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

July 8th



July 8 is my daughter birthday. Happy Birthday Amber! You are now old. We had dinner, cake, ice cream and sang in the new year of 25. WOW! I have a daughter that is 25, I am real old. We had a great party with family and friends. I also was invited to fish yesterday with with Joe and Dan from church. We spent the day on Diamond lake in Hemet. What a great day of fishing and and hanging out with friend.

Nothing for miles and miles and miles.

We were traveling down the rift valley in Kenya, Africa and in the distance was a store in the middle of nothing. We had seen no towns, no people, nothing, just goats, birds, baboons, trees and then a Coca-Cola stand. It sold nothing but Coke.


It tells me that Coca-Cola Company rules the world. How amazing! In the middle of nothing there is a store to grab a nice warm Coke. Ice was still another one hundred miles away. Pepsi owns the ice company in Africa. (LOL!)
We should let Coca-Cola run the United States for a few years. If they can get a bottle of coke all the way to that remote place in Africa wonder that they could do with a barrel of Gasoline. I bet it would be cheaper! Coca-Cola for President! It's the real thing!

July 4th

July 4th, 2008
What a blessing to live in the United States! I am so thankful for all our forefathers and the things they did, for the sacrifice them made, and the words and wisdom they gave to each of us. I have walked were Patrick Henry, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and many more had walked in their lifetime. My Cell Phone


Well it’s a law. We can not talk on our cell phone's in California in our cars, unless you have a hands free device. I have a Super tooth Light Blue tooth Hands free Speakerphone. It’s great! Just push the green button to talk and the red to stop. It has clear voice Capture (CVC) Digital signal processor (DSP).It has real-time audio to process any echo or background noise. It adjusts sound levels to compensate for loud engine noise. WOW!
There are two things that bug’s me about the new law. I still have to push the green button to talk to you and the red to hang up on you. I still use my hands, so the question is, Will I get a ticket for using my Super tooth Light Blue tooth Hands free Speakerphone? Second, why does this new law allow me to use my computer while driving and not my cell phone? I can blog as I go down the freeway and it’s the law!
Well it all over my head as I drive down the road pushing my green button as I eat my hamburger and fries from In-and–Out. Have to push the red button now, so I can stop talking and take a drink of my Coca-Cola.

Cars

I love cars! I hate cars! Its something we all have said over the years. We love them when they cause us no problems but if something happens and it stops working, we hate them! I and Tricia just got done paying for her Jeep Liberty about two months ago. You can guess what I will say next. Yes it broke down. After you pay something off and it’s yours free and clear it always does something weird. The compressor on the air unit went out. I would have not fixed it and she would have just been without air but the belt that runs the alternator, water pump, power steering is on the same belt, so nothing would have worked. She also would have killed me. So we fixed it.
She was coming to get me in my Jeep so we could put her car in the shop and she broke down. She is really hard on cars! My clutch went out on Arlington and Magnolia. A busy street and when she called me she was not in the best of moods. But I love her anyways! Good thing she is not a car!

A letter from Africa

I have been talking to a friend of mine in Africa. I asked him to write me a letter about his life so I could post it to this bog site. He could open it up in Africa and show his friend's that he is now world famous. The picture is of him working in a place called Kipsongo helping the poorest of the poor. Years ago I walked with him and others in that little piece of earth. I long to go back! To set down once again to share in their life and the struggles they face each day. Compared to that little village and the people struggles,I have "NOTHING" to complain about.

Dear pastor.
It is yet another moment God has given to us both through his love and care. I,m pretty okay and trust in the Lord. Hope that you too still burning with love in Christ. I believe you are okay, I too the same,
The following is my life history. I hope you will be touched with my past.
I,m William, I was born in Kenya Turkana district a place known as Lokhapel. I grew in the both hands of both parents together with my other siblings. My home district is semi arid therefore our economic activity is/was pastrolism. It was in 1994 whereby the fate and the mishap of my life fell on us. In the past there has been a raiding activity between my communities and the Pokot the neighboring tribe. This went on till this year whereby my father was killed after being ambushed by raiders.
I went to live with my aunt and life became miserable. The few livestock could not sustain us. One years later there came another raid which was revenge and my mother was killed in a cold blood and my siblings kidnapped now I have three brothers. I ran away from home to kitale town. I lived along the corridors of the streets. I experienced harsh treatment with the police tonight.
Food was a dream a day after another I ate leftovers and engaged in drug abuse and trafficking.
One day I decided doing casual jobs like offloading sacks of maize from long distance tracks. Two years later I got a serious injury in my chest.
My own friends ran away because of my conditions, I lost hope of living. One day, which was God’s day, I met you in deliverance church and felt a sign of relieve in my soul. I believed that God is out to correct my past. Your cordial smile, your love and concern made me forget my past. I became focused again. You became my parents, my sibling and a friend. I was reflected but you replaced my lost hopes. so encouraging, Blessing upon your life.
I therefore under the sun believe that you and your wife are my parents. What a wonderful God, Thanks for love and your kindness, as long as you live you will be blessed abundantly. Life in the street is very hard and I’m very concern of street boys and girls I hope God can use me to change there lifes in the picture i,m the one holding the baby.{My vision is to Give hope to hopeless}

Gas

I pulled into the gas station the other day and paid $2.35 a gallon for gas. Wow what a deal! I remember saying $2.00 a gallon would be the most I would ever pay for gas! How time changes things.
Want to get a great deal on gas. Go to Siempre our children home in Tijuana, Mexico. As you leave Mexico, fill up your tank with $2.35 a gallon gas. Yes gas in Tijuana is now $2.35. I saved $30.00 for taking a trip to Mexico. I got paid for working at Siempre that day. I worked 10 hours for $3.00 an hour.
Prices for a gallon of gas in Norway $8.73, England--$8.00, Japan $5.77, Australia—$3.85, Mexico City $2.22, Russia $1.45, Kazakhstan $1.35, Saudi Arabia .91 cents, Venezuela .14 cents. If I only gone to Venezuela instead of Tijuana I would have saved $77.14!

A Meal at Goofy's Kitchen


We took are granddaughter to Disneyland the other day. It’s the only place were you can eggs and bacon with a side dish of ice cream and cookies. Don't tell our son and daughter-in law! The Mad Hatter was there with Goofy, Chip and Dale, Alice in wonderland, Pluto and Ba loo the bear. Goofy cooked the meal. What a treat!

Memorial Day weekend May 23-26, 2008

April 17,2008
It’s that time of year again to pick up the hammer, to paint the walls, and to fall down on the bed and think of all the great stuff you did that day. That is, if you are not asleep by the time you hit the edge of the bed! (HA!) There is one sound I love to hear that weekend that goes above the laughter, it cries out more than the bleats of the goats, or is better than our people’s Spanish. The sound of the generator being turn off for the final time of the weekend. Shouting out in silence, a job well done! For that to happen, we need you there! I am really looking forward to participating in the Memorial Day weekend building trip on May 23-26. This event is for such a worthy cause, and I am very eager to have you on board with us this year.
As you may know, Central Community has provided homes for needy families and kids in Mexico. I am so thrilled to have been a part of each year’s building trip for each have been a blessing all within themselves. Through the combined generous contributions from you, especially through your hard work, we have been blessed to have 17 homes, 1 church and Siempre Para Los Ninos (our children home)
I am asking you to help Central Community to make this event another great success this year by offering your mind, your soul, and most of all, your body. The lives of others will be greatly enhanced by what your hands will do. The forth and final faze of Siempre will be build this year to support more kids and the Church community in Granjas. This years building will be our biggest yet. 3528 sq ft! It will include a 720 sq ft Dinning room, a kitchen to feed 64 people, 4 dorm rooms that will sleep 16 people each, 2 bathroom and a 2 bedroom home to house a Missionary.

A loaf of Bread



To get a loaf of bread we walk into Staters Brothers pick it off the shelf and go to the check out and we are done. Probably will take you 5 minutes at the most. Amazing!


Me and Tricia went for a hike down Deer Creek trail the other day. At one point of the trail you come to Granite Rock. On that rock are holes the Cahuilla Indians used to grind the acorns and grain to make their bread and mush. The picture below is of those griding holes.

They would have to collect the acorns and grains in the forest, grid them at Granite rock, take them back to their village, mix them with water, cook them and then they would have bread. Probably took them 5 hours. Amazing!

Isle 8

Yesterday I had to run to Kinko’s to copy some of the legal paperwork for the land we had purchased for the next faze of Siempre, our Children home in Mexico. We hope that you will be going with us to build on May 23-26. Check out http://siemprekids.org/ for the reason’s why we go.
As I walked to Kinko’s I decided to get my hair cut while I was there next to Super Cuts. I would get two things done at once. The sign in lady told me I would have to wait 20min, so I went over to Sav-On Drug store to pick up a few things while I wanted for my hair to be cut.
As I was walking past isle 8 I noticed a man tearing a little box open and placing the object into his pants pocket. I went a few steps to isle 7 and said to myself, “THAT’S NOT RIGHT”. I walked up to the check out and told the lady at the registrar that the guy of isle 8 with the white shirt on was placing products into his pockets. The man that was being checkout at the time said “THAT’S NOT RIGHT”. Really weird that he would think that!
Then something happened that made me mad. She got on the intercom of the store and “YELLED OUT SECURITY TO ISLE 8. SECURITY TO ISLE 8”. She might a well said in the speakers “Sir, with the white shirt that is placing things into his pockets on isle 8, we are coming for you so you better put all that stuff back on the shelf before we get there—or your going to Jail. I said to myself “THAT’S NOT RIGHT”.
I walked out of the store and there outside was the security guard smoking a cigarette. I said to myself “THAT’S NOT RIGHT”. I told the security guard that they might need him inside on isle 8 with a man with a white shirt on. As he went passed me going into the store, I said to myself “a man with a white shirt and empty pockets”. “THAT’S NOT RIGHT”
Don’t know what happened after that I had to get my hair cut.

Skipping Rocks

Remember being young and spending a day at the lake skipping rocks?
What a way to live life!
We took my granddaughter to the lake last week and she just had to throw rocks in the lake. But it’s not just for young kids, it’s for Papa's and Grandma’s also. Lake Fulmor is just ten minutes from our house and it’s were I skipped rocks when I was young with my Grandpa and Grandma Fox. Alot of memories of fishing, camping, catching bull frogs, swimming, hiking and skipping rocks.
Skip a rock today and email me the number of times it skipped. Can you beat 6?

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

One of the blessings for working at a church is that people show up to share their lives and hearts with the staff. People also bring you stuff from their kitchens, gardens or the shopping experiences of the day. People have given me tomatoes, green beans, tools, chili, clothes, pies of every kind, a wallet, candy, zucchini (which I don’t like), corn, canteen, strawberries, watermelon, hot peppers, a goat.
For many years a man named Ted Springer would bring over a pie that he just pulled out of the oven. His pies were always M-M-GOOD! He would call to see if anyone was in the office and then a few minutes later he would walk in the door of the office with this great smelling pie. Ted is no longer with us. He is with the Lord. We sure miss him and “HIS PIES”.

Today my mother and granddaughter made the office a Pineapple Upside down Cake. It was great. I just might take some home for my wife.
Below is a recipe for the cake if you have never had one.

Pineapple Upside down Cake
Made with pineapple, maraschino cherries
INGREDIENTS:
3 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
6 slices pineapple or 1 can (20 ounces) can of drained pineapple chunks
Maraschino cherries.
Cake
.
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
PREPARATION:
In a 9-inch square cake pan, melt butter; sprinkle with brown sugar. Arrange pineapple and cherries on sugar, making a design.
Make cake batter. Cream 1/2 cup butter; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with the milk; beat until smooth, ending with dry ingredients. Pour over pineapple design. Bake at 375° for about 35 minutes. Let cake cool for about 5 minutes before turning out onto a serving plate. Serve warm with whipped cream, if desired.

Bananas

I like bananas! My wife likes bananas! My kids and granddaughter likes bananas! I guess we are a banana eating family. The problem is that you get them at the store and you can only buy a few because when you get home they go bad.
I have fixed the problem. I got some bags called “Green Bags” by Debbie Meyer. I can put the fresh bananas into these bags and for the next two week I don’t have to worry about my bananas. If I buy some that are really green I can have bananas for months. (LOL)
Thank God for people like Debbie Meyer, Betty Crocker, Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, my wife and kids.

Tricia's Chili

I cook around the house as much as my wife does. She found this recipe that is really-really good. It's on the hotter side for chili. It's also low in calories and it's good for you body. The real name is Doc’s Chili but Tricia's Chili sounds better. She is a good cook but I can give her a run for the money. Try it you'll like it!


INGREDIENTS:

3 cups chopped yellow onions
1 pound lean ground turkey
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano (or 1 teaspoon dried)
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground mustard
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
1 1/2 cups cooked pinto beans (one 15-ounce can, rinsed and drained )
1 1/2 cups cooked black beans (one 15-ounce can, rinsed and drained )
3 cups diced tomatoes (or one 28-ounce can roasted diced tomatoes, undrained)
1 cup fat free chicken broth
1/2 cup black olives
1/2 cup chopped green onions or chopped fresh cilantro

Spray a large saucepan or Dutch oven with a few sprays of cooking oil spray. Add onion and sauté over medium-high heat until soft and just starting to brown. Add ground turkey or sausage; cook over medium high heat, breaking up meat with a spoon, until cooked through; about 6 minutes. Add chili powder, oregano, cumin, mustard, garlic, beans, tomatoes, and broth. Bring to a boil over high heat and then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and let simmer for 20 minutes. Garnish with olives and green onions or cilantro and serve immediately.Yield: 2 ¼ quarts; twelve (1-cup) servings

Our House

One of the many blessing’s in our lives is our home. It has been a shelter from the rain and snow. A place were family and friends has come together to share our lives, to grow together, to laugh, to experience the good times and bad. A place of retreat from all the responsibilities of our lives.
We all call that “HOME”
Over the year’s we have had family and friend’s stay with us and now we would like to invite you to share our home. For one weekend a month we are going to offer the people at Central Community a place to come up, away from their homes, lives and responsibilities. To stay at our house in enjoy the beauty of the Forrest and the mountains of Idyllwild. Come on up on Friday and stay till Sunday. Or if you can’t miss church leave on Saturday or Sunday morning.
It will be first come first served. So talk to us and we can set some dates. If it all goes well we might offer it twice a month. Welcome to our home. Come on up and we will set around the fire and share our lives with you.

Water

I picked up a few things up at Stater Brother’s yesterday. As I was walking in the store I went down the Water isle. Yes they now have so many water’s that one isle is dedicated to “Water”. If you wanted to get some water at the store today it will take you hours to pick the one that is right for you.
They have…
Artesian Water, Mountain Water, Distilled water, Crystal Water, Glacial water, Spring water, Fitness water, Fruit water, Vitamin water, Invigoration water, Calm your life water, Shield your life water, Energize your life water, and the one I picked up was Enlighten your life water. I have always wanted to be “ENLIGHTEN”! I might even give it to someone as a gift and they can drink it and will be enlighten!

I picked up a few things at Smart and Final yesterday and they have some water that Stater Brother’s does not carry, they have “Smart Water”. Now you can find all your answer to life and fix all your problems with a bottle of water!

I noticed something-- all of that water was trying to fix the problems and the situations that we find ourselves in. But I know this guy. His name is Jesus and he gives this water that will not fix your problems but goes to the source and gives you life.
He has said “All who drink of this water will be thirsty again. But whoever takes a drink of water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up within him unto eternal life” (John 4:14)

The water at Staters, Smart and Final and in life will cost you something, sometimes your own life but the water I want to drink is free to the taking. All we have to do is ask Jesus for it and we will be blessed with it.

We All Have Them!

All of us have them around our homes.
Some have them inside our houses.
We are troubled by them and for some they keep us up at night.
We try to rid them from our lives but they keep coming back.
It’s because “they” rule the World!
Critters’
We all have them!
My critters are raccoons. They get into my trash and have dinner, lunch or Breakfeast.
No matter how tight the trash can lid is on they can get it open because…
They rule the World!

A pain to have around but critters are cute.
We would miss them if they were not here and we have no one to rule the world. Maybe then we would have to settle for Clinton, McCain or Obama.
The other critters in our lives that are keeping us up at night!
